THE EP.
Last year, I packed up my life in Vancouver, Canada and moved to London, UK. Prior to then, I was regularly taking trips to LA + New York to write and produce with others; London wasn’t the obvious choice when I was looking to make a move for music, but it did sound like the biggest adventure.
For a Moment or Two is the first collection of songs I’ve created as the sole writer and producer. Who I am, not only as an artist, but also as a person, is infused in these songs; I am so excited to share them with the world.
Thank you for listening x
a note from serena.

The EP title ‘For a Moment or Two’ comes from a lyric in the song, Good News.
“I wish I could slow down the days
for a moment or two;
but the longer I wait, wonder
what I’m supposed to do.”
This EP was born during the months I was settling into my new home. I didn’t have any pre-existing friends or collaborators in London; having an empty calendar made time feel like it was simultaneously flying by while standing still.
This is when I decided to write and produce alone for the first time since the beginning of my career as an artist + songwriter in 2019.
These songs are meant to take you on a journey; starting from a place of uncertainty and self-doubt to one of acceptance and understanding. Ultimately, this EP is about embracing the highs & the lows that come with life, and learning to enjoy the ride.

In Sunny Blue, the lyrics reflect on a past relationship with someone who didn't know how to communicate their emotions; it's about being blindsided and left in the dark by a person you loved + saw a future with.
The song captures a persistent bitterness that has built over time; as it progresses, the production subtly becomes more and more chaotic until it abruptly reaches a head in the outro; this is meant to signify how anger + other negative emotions can feel all-consuming up until a point where it dissipates and is replaced with an overwhelming sense of relief.
“Not a single mark or trace existed when you left. Pouring down like acid rain, if only for a moment. Didn’t have a thing to say while I wept. Nothing left to do or think ‘cause you’re trekking on ahead.”

Lack of Love is about coming to terms with a relationship’s looming end. It talks about wrestling with a gut instinct that something’s wrong, but not being able to pinpoint the problem. No matter how hard one person is fighting for a relationship to work, if there’s something inherently missing, it won’t last; this song is about the process of figuring that out.
“When I pull the plug, you fight for us; acting like there’s nothing wrong, while I get shaken up. ‘Cause we hide our thoughts under the rug, well I get shaken up but I can’t shake the lack of love between us.”
-
I wrote Running with the Bulls a few months into my move, when I was feeling overwhelmed by the reality of uprooting my life and having to build a new foundation from scratch. While I knew this transitional period was temporary, that didn’t necessarily make going through it any easier.
This song is about growing up and learning that discomfort is intrinsic to being alive; it acts as a reminder that regardless of how overwhelming it may feel in the moment, periods of stress will always come and go.
“I’ve been down on myself a little bit more than I should be lately. I stopped reaching out, sick of my ups and downs on the daily. I’m tired of being so vulnerable to everything that hits me; and I know it’s not forever, no, I’m just running with the bulls.”
-
Good News is about accepting the unknown and letting go of what we cannot control. I wrote it when I was starting to believe that even when nothing is certain, everything will be okay. My hope for this song is that it brings peace to whoever’s listening.
“Cause I pulled on all the strings, and I dug up all my roots; when the sky came crashing down, I started new. Now I barely understand all the changes I’ve been through, but the grip I used to have is coming loose and I think that’s good news.”

Growing up, whenever I went through a tough time, my father would remind me to take a step back by saying, “Enjoy your life!” While this was annoying to hear at the time, Enjoy! is about growing up and learning to internalize my father’s advice. This song is meant to act as a carefree reminder to live in the moment and not take anything for granted.
“Take a hint listen up when my parents, they both say to relax let it happen. Just enjoy! Enjoy the ride. With the rush and the thrill ‘til you’re caught upside down, that’s life.”
