Vienna ‘24 - Songwriting Retreat at Zonkey Studios

WHERE: Zonkey Studios, located a couple hours outside of Vienna, Austria.
WHEN: over a week in July, 2024.
WHO: 7 artists + 3 producers + 1 videographer + 1 chef = 1 family for the week.
my thoughts:
wow. what a time. this retreat was so so special for many reasons; but to name a few—
it reminded me that saying yes to new experiences, taking risks, and stepping outside of my regular day-to-day are some of my favorite ways to be inspired.
strangers became family over a week. the incredible people i met on this trip have persistently been some of the most supportive, genuine, and close friends I have in London.
we wrote amazing songs that are having lives of their own! one of my favorite memories was being paired with Isaac, Alex and Simon on the second day; we wrote a beautiful song about childhood dreams + letting things happen over time (for Isaac!!) since then, he’s decided to release it, has played it live at Truck Festival, and is in the process of recording it at a studio in London :’) so excited to share when it’s out.

^^ here’s a little voice memo of a song we wrote for fun on night 1 of the retreat. we’d just finished dinner out on the patio where we’d been greeted by fireflies and played 2 truths and a lie. it’s beautifully imperfect— you can hear us stumbling on the words and melodies as we go, but something about it really captures the warmth of the retreat; i love listening to it because it brings me back there immediately. i hope it brings you the same feeling :)
final words re: the retreat— I had no clue what I was signing up for when I agreed to go on this trip, but I am so incredibly grateful to have been a part of it. if you ever find yourself in a situation where you can learn new skills and meet new people in a safe environment, this is your reminder to say yes :)
